Nestled in the heart of Haridwar, just a few steps away from the sacred Har Ki Pauri, Shiv Vishram Grah Lodge carries a legacy rooted in devotion, service, and simplicity.
What began in the 19th century as a humble Math — a spiritual dwelling for saints and Mahants — has today evolved into a place that continues to offer a peaceful and homely stay to every visitor who walks through its doors.
Even today, the essence remains unchanged — a space where spirituality meets comfort, and every guest is welcomed with warmth.
The Esteemed Founder
Mahant Shiv Dayal Giri Ji Maharaj
The foundation of Shiv Vishram Grah Lodge was laid by Mahant Shiv Dayal Giri Ji Maharaj, a revered spiritual figure in Haridwar and the Garhwal region.
Originally established as a Math, it served as a sacred space where saints and Mahants lived, worshipped, and practiced spiritual life.
Fondly addressed as Guruji or Mahantji, he devoted his life selflessly to the service of saints and devotees, creating a legacy built on faith, humility, and service.
The Visionary Successor
After Guruji, the responsibility was carried forward by his disciple and son, Mahant Som Giri Ji Maharaj, lovingly known as Maharaj Ji.
A freedom fighter and a respected figure of his time, he played a role in India’s freedom movement and is remembered with deep respect.
He expanded the lodge’s vision, making it accessible to the growing number of yatris visiting Haridwar. He introduced facilities suited to that era and ensured that every devotee experienced comfort along with spiritual peace.
The Torchbearer of the Legacy
After the untimely passing of Maharaj Ji in 1978, the responsibility was taken forward by his son, Mahant Anil Giri Ji .
With dedication and perseverance, he has continued to serve devotees while gradually adapting the lodge to modern times. Blending tradition with present-day needs, he has introduced improved facilities and amenities while preserving the core values of the establishment.
Our Motto
Across generations, one belief has remained constant:
